Honda Turbocharged Engine HR-412E

An article from AutoGuide.com for sharing.

Enthusiasts have been calling for turbocharged Hondasfor over a decade and finally the Japanese automaker has decided to listen. But there is a catch.
Officially revealed at the Paris Motor Show today(this article is dated on 28th September 2012), the company’s new HR-412E powerplant is a turbocharged 1.6-liter 4-cylinder motor that also features direct injection. It’s not a production engine, however, and is instead designed specifically for the new Civic World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) race car.
It is, however, a strong indication of the direction Honda intends to take with the upcoming Civic Type R, which only this week Honda CEO Takanobu Ito confirmed will go into production specifically for the European market (another catch).
In a release Honda says the future Civic Type R will make use of the “technologies developed through Honda’s participation in the World Touring Car Championships (WTCC).” Reading between the lines, it’s very likely that means a turbocharged direct-injection powerplant.
In addition, Honda says the new Type R will, “aim to set new standards in performance and handling,” with a goal of being the fastest front-drive car on the Nurburgring.
In summary, a turbocharged Honda engine might make it into the new Civic Type R, which isn’t planned for the US (though there’s still the possibility), and Honda’s enthusiast fan base will have to be patient too, with the car not expected until 2015.

Nissan RB25DET left over gasket

I use to keep a few gasket sets of this Nissan Skyline 2.5 RB25DET engine model, as usual customer come for inquiry normally may not just want to buy the whole set, they might just want loose item from the gasket set.

One of my stock top set gasket for Nissan RB25DETT, is left over with the items show in the photo in this post, by after selling the cylinder head gasket, rocker cover gasket, intake manifold gasket and valve seals actually to difference 4 customer. Still have one piece of exhaust manifold gasket that I didn't show it here.

What is left over? Clearly we can see 2 pieces of exhaust pipe gasket for turbo housing outlet, 2 pieces of the half moon seal, the 12 pieces o-ring I can't get to know where it is using but may be have some related to the engine valve system. 2 pieces of camshaft oil seal and you can see that one piece of beautiful shining metal ring, that's the exhaust pipe gasket which I think it is not so easy to spoil by looking at its material quality.

So do you think how much I can get if I'm able to sell all this left over items from the set?

'Dear Santa' letters to post office hits a century

Published: Wednesday December 19, 2012 MYT 12:00:00 PM

CHICAGO: One 13-year-old boy who sent a "Dear Santa" letter to the U.S. Post Office this year asked only for covers for his bed, "so I can stay warm this winter."
Another letter from a 12-year-old wanted nothing for himself, just something for his single mother, because she worked so hard.
Heartrending letters like these are sent each year to the Post Office "Letters to Santa" program, now in its 100th year.
Postal employees go through the hundreds of thousands of letters addressed to "Santa Claus, North Pole, Alaska" to separate out those that express serious need.
Some of the letters are answered by charitable groups, businesses, schools, postal employees and individual anonymous givers, who can come to participating branches, pick letters and go shopping.
The Chicago branch has already seen 18,000 letters come in -- with more arriving every day, said communications director and "Chief Elf" Robin Anderson on Tuesday. She expects about 2,500 will be answered. The New York "Operation Santa" program is the country's largest, receiving more than a half a million letters each season.

Letters this year are reflecting a greater need for necessities, and have included more letters from adults looking for work who need help buying for their children, according to both Chicago postal workers and givers.
"You're reading letters from six-year-old, eight-year-old kids who aren't asking for video games, they're asking for winter coats and food on the table, which is not something you'd think of kids writing to Santa for," said Kelley Fernandez, 26, who along with her colleague Debbie Schmidt, 53, who work for Toji Trading Group and have answered letters from Santa for three years.
Last year, Schmidt and Fernandez got other colleagues involved, and this year the whole Chicago office plus the Singapore office participated. The employees bought gifts for 26 families this year, including 106 children -- at 40 boxes the largest "Santa" shipment this year from the Chicago branch.
Anyone who wants to adopt a letter at a participating branch must fill out a form and show a picture ID. Then the giver comes back with a gift by December 22 to match the letter, and pays for postage.
To protect the privacy of the recipients, the full names and addresses are known only to the U.S. Post Office, which delivers the gifts.
One man who is an annual giver to the Santa program in Chicago used to be a recipient himself, said Anderson.
Schmidt and Fernandez say they bring a box of tissues to read the letters, because they can be so emotional. Fernandez recalled that last year, a little girl wrote, "Dear Santa, we're staying with our auntie because our mother can no longer take care of us, and we want you to know where we are this year."
Schmidt said she also sees requests from grandmothers, single moms and single dads.
Schmidt said she and her co-workers are sending handwritten letters back to the families along with the presents, signed by Santa. "We let everything be from Santa," she said. "The kids are so young, and still believing in Santa." - Reuters

How I get to know Ta-Q-Bin

How do I get to know Ta-Q-Bin in the first place? My wife watch Japan animation movie 魔女の宅急便 few years back ago, one day, she saw a courier delivery van with Ta-Q-Bin logo on the road, she excitedly point me on the van and talk about it, only than I know that Ta-Q-Bin is stand for 宅急便.

A little about Ta-Q-Bin on their website,

TA-Q-BIN which means "personal express delivery" in Japanese, is Japan's leading logistics specialist, covering an array of transport services under the Yamato Group. Originally formed as Yamato Transport in 1919, TA-Q-BIN has become an important social infrastructure by creating more convenient lifestyles through innovative logistics systems.

Formerly known as 'Takkyubin' in Japan, the company made a decision to re-establish itself as 'TA-Q-BIN' to fulfil a more global presence.

As a symbol of commitment to providing the best services, the TA-Q-BIN logo portrays a black female cat carrying its kitten. This significant image represents the culture and professionalism in which TA-Q-BIN treats all of its deliveries. This logo is carried on all TA-Q-BIN trucks and TA-Q-BIN agents, which are found at most convenience and retail stores in Japan, Taiwan, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Singapore and now, Malaysia.

There are some speciality on Ta-Q-Bin service compare to other courier service, as they accept things like foods, vege or fruit  to be sent by their service in some extend or term and condition, so it is quite fun for me to see Ta-Q-Bin help desk in the AEON supermarket (Formerly Jusco in Malaysia) during festive season, like Chinese New Year, to provide service of sending mandarin orange for your love one for you.

How not to get fleeced at workshops

An article that extract from The Star newspaper for sharing.

By EUGENE MAHALINGAM
eugenicz@thestar.com.my

HOW often has this happened? You take your car to the workshop (for either a tiny maintenance job or to fit back that loose, hanging fender after an accident) only to come out with the problem fixed, but also a bill as long as the Nile!
Look around
Many times, if you don’t have a regular mechanic, you’re bound to end up looking for or going to one when you desperately need something fixed.
“When that happens, you end up searching for a mechanic based on impulse. You’re not thinking long-term. You’re willing to fork out any amount of cash just to get the problem fixed as quickly as possible,” says seasoned mechanic Baskar Subramaniam.
“You’re not thinking about whether the job that mechanic is offering you is really even necessary, or if there are other workshops that can offer a lower price for the same repair work.”
Baskar says one should always look around first and try to “find the best deal” before deciding on a suitable mechanic.
Get recommendations
If you don’t already take your car for maintenance to a regular service centre, or a trusty workshop for your old jalopy, then it’s time to source for a workshop!
“The easiest way to look for a good workshop or honest mechanic is through word of mouth,” says Eddie Wong, who owns two cars and he has been taking to “his mechanic” for the past 15 years.
“Ask your friends or working colleagues where they take their cars to, and how much different maintenance or repair jobs cost,” he adds.
Janet Khoo, who openly admits that she used to get fleeced, says she found a decent mechanic after doing some research online.
“I frequent blogs quite often and decided to ask around about finding a mechanic near where I stayed. I got a lot of good references and through trial and error, found one that doesn’t perform daylight robbery,” she says.

Keeping the mechanic honest
When sending your car to the workshop or service centre, it’s always best to get a quote beforehand on how much the job will cost.
“There are actually people out there who never ask for a quote, taking it for granted that it will cost a certain amount,” says Baskar.
Wong says it’s only fair to the customer to know how much a job will cost.
“It’s only fair to ask and get a quote. It’s one way of keeping the mechanic honest and ensuring you don’t get cheated,” he says.
Johari Raslan, who says he’s been going to the same mechanic “for the longest time ever,” believes it’s a big help if the customer has some basic know-how of “how a car works.”
“If you know how basic things work, like maybe the braking system or internal combustion system, for instance, then you would be able to tell if the mechanic wants you to install a part that isn’t actually required.
“If you know your car well enough to be able to even diagnose the problem (see do-it-yourself below), you should already know what needs to be fixed and how much it would cost even before taking the vehicle to the workshop,” he says.
Safety first
Don’t be doing cartwheels just yet if you’ve managed to find a mechanic that offers cheap labour.
“Find out the reason why the bill isn’t as high as the other mechanics you compared with. Are the parts genuine? Is he using second-hand parts? Is he cutting corners? Of course, it’s good to get something done at a low price, but never compromise on safety,” advises Baskar.
“It’s good if you can check with other customers on the kind of work the mechanic does. Of course, these customers might be fine with him cutting corners and using used parts, but that doesn’t mean you should too,” he adds.
Johari says one should check if the mechanic is qualified to do the job.
“Visit the premises. What does it look like? It might not be clean, but is the safety of the mechanic, his workers and even the customers an issue? It also helps if he has a certificate hanging on his wall.”
Do-it-yourself
This isn’t a very popular option, as not everyone likes to get their hands dirty. However, it does have its benefits, says Wong.
“Knowing how to do tiny maintenance jobs on your car can help you reduce the number of trips to the workshop. However, by taking the initiative to learn a bit more about your car, and knowing how things work, then won’t feel so clueless when you take your car to your mechanic eventually.
“If you know enough, then you would know if the repairs or parts that your mechanic says you require are actually necessary,” he says.

China Forklift Engine Cylinder Head Gasket

Initially China manufacture their forklift with Japan made engine, but it is matter of time that China will come up with their own design engine, and it will be a matter of time also on how far the customer will except their engine.

Actually we can find those China made engine in their forklift range already, although it seem the design may have some similar, which I'm not dare to say they are copying from the Japan one.

In Malaysia market, it seem there are forklift importer than bring in this China made forklift with China made engine, and the common engine they use is A490, A495 and A498.

Although A490, A495 and A498 model all are in difference CC category, it seem their engine gasket is actually inter-changeable, and let see how interesting they design their gasket.

For the upper photo, it is the damage gasket from the A498 forklift and at the lower photo is the A490 forklift head gasket, if you overlap 2 gasket on it, you will found their hole position are all match, with the gasket bore diameter is 101mm for both, but it is really don't understand why the pattern of their side edge need to design differently.

Honda R18A and R20A engine gasket

First know the Honda R18A engine when the Honda Civic 1.8 is introduce into Malaysia market, which the engine is quite new at the time, before this Civic 1.8, the engine that come in before R18A is K20A and K24A which is on Honda Stream, CRV and Accord model.

Just after I thought that the CRV will be using the K20A engine for a while because this is consider new engine, suddenly a new model which come with newer engine R20A caught me by surprise.

Although R18A and R20A is a difference code for difference cc of engine, the engine gasket actually are same which the cylinder head gasket also using the same bore diameter, difference in cc is just because of the difference height of the piston.

For one who really interested to know more deeply on R18A and R20A engine, you may click on the below link which is the info given is very detail.

Chevrolet Spark Engine Gasket

Not really familiar with this Chevrolet Spark model, what engine is it using? Initially may found it looks like in Suzuki family, but more precisely may be it is under Daewoo engine family, or may be it actually it is originated from Chevrolet and use by other.

Daewoo range of model that use similar engine with Chevrolet Spark have Tico, Labo and Matiz, which in Daewoo side they put the engine code as F8CN, quite a cute car but not so popular at here.

How about this? Renault 3 cylinder turbo TCE 90 engine.

Because of the Perodua range of vehicle, there are quite a number of driver like to play on 3 cylinder turbo engine modified on their vehicle, and how about you think on this Renault new Energy TCE 90 engine?

The Energy TCe 90 engine is the first three-cylinder turbo petrol engine developed by Renault. It boasts the best driving enjoyment/fuel economy equation on the market and its user cost is reduced. The Energy TCe 90 will be launched in the future Clio and will gradually replace the current TCe 100, without sacrificing driving pleasure despite its 25 per cent reduction in cubic capacity.

Renault's first three-cylinder turbo engine

First three-cylinder engine by Renault, the Energy TCe 90 is the product of a brand-new Renault design. This 899cc turbo petrol engine is all-aluminium.

Featuring a very low inertia turbo (the lowest on the market) combined with Variable Valve Timing (VVT), the Energy TCe 90 boasts the best driving enjoyment/fuel economy equation on the market.

The new engine develops 90hp at 5,000rpm and torque of 135Nm available across a broad rev-band, guaranteeing all the driving enjoyment of a 1.4-litre naturally aspirated engine. With 90 per cent of torque available from 1,650rpm, it delivers smooth response from low engine speeds. Driving is smoother with less frequent gear-changes in built-up areas. Peak torque of the sprightly, free-revving Energy TCe 90 is 5,500rpm.

The Energy TCe 90 delivers the market’s fastest airflow ‘tumble’ effect inside the cylinders. Combustion is virtually instantaneous and takes full advantage of the downsizing to three cylinders:

- downsizing is a technique which involves reducing the cubic capacity of an engine in order to reduce fuel consumption, while maintaining performance thanks to turbocharging. The resulting saving in fuel consumption is estimated to be five per cent ;

- removing a cylinder reduces friction by 20 per cent compared with a four-cylinder engine architecture of the same cubic capacity, leading to a four per cent saving in fuel consumption ;

- the three-cylinder pulse, combined with a longer exhaust phase, is twice as powerful as that of an equivalent four-cylinder engine. This natural turbocharging means that less demand is made of the turbo which is in turn more efficient, directly benefiting fuel consumption.

The Energy TCe 90 will be launched in the future Clio and will gradually replace the current TCe 100, without sacrificing driving pleasure despite its 25 per cent reduction in cubic capacity.

Honda Beat Turbo?

Just checking some info on the Honda latest 3 cylinder engine, which I think it is so unpopular in Malaysia, it should be consist of E05A, E07A, E07Z and ECA, which E07Z have a Turbo version.

This engine mainly on the Honda mini car lines-up model, such as Honda Beat, Vamos, Insight ZE1, Today and Life.

With the E07Z Turbo specification which can  generate 47kW (64PS) and maximum output of 6,000 rpm, and maximum torque of 93N.m (9.5kgf.m) / 3,700 rpm, this SOHC 656cc engine looks like quite suitable for Daihatsu K-Car as well.

Oh, by the way, the above is just a photo of Honda OSM Concept car which is nothing to do with the topic of this post, just upload it for its stylish look.

World Engine Databook 2012 - 2013

This year I just received the World Engine Databook 2011-2012 courtesy from my Japan principal, and now I found that the 2012-2013 version is in the midst of preparation to be publishing soon, found this draft design of the World Engine Databook 2012 - 2013 cover in Facebook MotorFanillustrated page.

Nissan March K11 Engine Gasket

Suddenly can't stop posting on all this small car. The first Nissan March that made it debut in Malaysia market is the K10 model with MA10 engine, since than it seem no more new Nissan March model until the recent year of K12 model with CR12DE engine.

But actually around year of 1992 to 1998 onwards, there are one Nissan March K11 model in the market, but this K11 model with CG10DE and CG13DE engine looks like not entering to the Malaysia market officially.

But it is not suprising that still have owner looking for the engine gasket, not sure if it is a half cut that imported into Malaysia or it is from Singapore, when look into the info further, the rocker cover gasket, which attached with 2 moon seals, seem also have 2 types of design, one is with the screw holes (All counted have 10) and one is without hole.

Can consider 2012 Mitsubishi Mirage a K-Car?

2012 Mitsubishi Mirage is finally launched in Malaysia, at a glance, it may be seem like those Daihatsu K-Car looking, but actually it is define as B-segment five-seater hatchback, a B-segment category is putting it as same segment as the newly launched Nissan Almera as well but of course Almera is not in hatchback category.

With this new Mirage is more stress on environmental credentials, the 1.2-litre three-cylinder MIVEC engine, capable of generating 78 HP at 6000 rpm and 100 Nm at 4000 rpm, returns up to 21 km/litre in fuel economy, while emitting just 120 grams/km in carbon dioxide.

So with this clean drive come first concept, is this 3A92 engine suitable for a turbo bolt on modification? I believe there are K-Car fans may want to give it a try.

Suzuki R06A Engine

When I can see the local Suzuki K-Car fan may starting to switch from the F6A engine to K6A engine, Suzuki already come out with R06A engine on their Suzuki Alto Eco, which claim it is Japan top fuel-efficient car excluding hybrid vehicles, with best mileage of 30.2 km (18.8 miles) per liter (JC08 mode).

To achieve this fuel economy,They replace K-series engine with new R06A engine( lightweight and compact, lighter frame) which revise various parts of engine and CVT transmission to more friction resistance subjected to reduction (the pattern of the coating of the piston, piston ring such as changing the surface treatment, which incorporates new technology to reduce friction), that improve fuel efficiency across the system.

Beside it use on Suzuki Alto Eco, it is known that Nissan Moco 2013 model will using this engine as well, and with the relation between Nissan and Renault, they might get one Renault model have this engine install.

Daihatsu EF-RL Head Set Gasket

Finally I'm decided to upload the photo on this Daihatsu Move EF-RL head set gasket in this blog, initially I feel that the gasket content on EF-RL engine is quite similar to one Perodua Kelisa or Kenari EJ-DE engine, those items that you may need to change in between this 2 model is Cylinder Head Gasket, Rocker Cover Gasket and Intake Manifold Gasket.

But it seem I had little under estimate the content in EF-RL gasket set, when I look at it, the inclusion of many loose item gasket and o-ring, made it become one of the most items pack in gasket set for the Daihatsu K-Car engine, even JB-JL and JB-DET don't have such a amount of items in their gasket set.

The extra gasket piece that caught my eye is the turbo outlet gasket and the throttle body gasket, quite interesting to found throttle body gasket in EF-RL engine which I never seen in other EJ or EF series engine gasket set.

Subaru Forester 2.5 Turbo Gasket Set

Before that I'm already headache with all kind of patterns changes on Subaru EJ20 engine gasket, still learning, sometime in a hard way, may be will end up stocking all the unpopular model gasket in my store.

Still puzzling in EJ20, already need to look at some of the EJ25 model, Google search may easily found those gasket photo, one of them that I like most is the above Subaru EJ255 engine gasket kit set, which is use on Subaru Forester 2.5 Turbo.

This is just a start on the EJ25 journey, as same with EJ20, EJ25 also content various model that will change in pattern on their gasket which include EJ25D, EJ25DZ, EJ253, EJ254 and EJ255.

On the rocker cover gasket side, it is inter-changeable with 3VZ-FE for VCV10 and VCV15 model which is Toyota Lexus ES 300 and Windom 3000, it is also inter-changeable with 4VZ-FE for VCV32 and VCV33 model on the Camry 2500.

An EJ208 Engine Gasket photo again!

Earlier post you have my new photo on FB page cover photo, which is some engine gasket content on Subaru EJ208 engine. As it is EJ208, should we just consider it is EJ20 version 8?

And I found a photo that show similar content as mine during google search, this seem content more items in the bottom side of engine which I still not having it in my store, but I'm pretty sure this is not the full content as well, as you know, I actually have the content list which it is amazing to see such a big number of items to content in one full set gasket.

Engine Rocker Cover on iPhone Case Cover

Before this, I post about the iPhone case cover with engine gasket design, now I found some creative design using the engine rocker cover as the design for the iPhone case cover.

Although it may not so attractive for most of the user, but for motor fans or automotive enthusiasm may find this so interesting that they wish to have one.

My FB Page New Cover Photo

Since Facebook had change its appearance to timeline version, its header allow us to put an extra cover photo to make you on profile more attractive, it had been quite some time I just left the cover photo blank in the KP Gasket page in Facebook.

It just happen someone is looking for something like Subaru EJ20 version 8 gasket, oh come on, don't just tell me like that, I can't even recognise that Subaru is version what when I see it directly, just let me see some of the gasket sample and I may try my best to check on my side.

But seem some not even dare to dismantle anything before he or she can be sure that the parts are available, it seems like having the stock in my store also not that easy to end it up at the end consumer for this type of engine.

It also take some time for me to gather some of those gasket to take a family photo for them, it looks like a head set isn't it? Obviously it is not, it is not completed, but yet it can be also, sound tricky isn't it, haha....I think I will have some tough time to get familiar with this engine model.

Is Nissan RB28 an Official Engine

Customer looking for Nissan RB28 Engine gasket kit, since can't find the engine code in my gasket catalog under Nissan RB series engine section so just do some google search.

The finding is, RB28 engine may be not actually really official engine from Nissan, indeed it may the modified product from one of the RB26 engine, let's see the fact from wikipedia source,

RB26DETT Z2

RB26DETT Z2This is the engine used in the Nissan Skyline GT-R Z-Tune built by Nismo. It uses the stronger RB26 N-1 block (87.0 x 73.7 mm), modified with Nismo parts, bored and stroked to 2.8 L (87.0 x 77.7 mm). The end result was the RB28Z2, which produces 510 bhp (368 kW) and 540 N·m of torque.

So, may be we can conclude that for engine gasket kit, RB28 is using the same gasket with RB26.

Hyundai Unique New Concept Car: I-ONIQ

Hyundai has unveiled its latest European concept car, named i-oniq, at 2012 Geneva Motor Show, showcasing new technology and design which present an impression of the company's future thinking.

The 4.4 metre long i-oniq is an electric sports hatchback with a range-extending petrol engine. Intended to convey the latest thinking from Hyundai's designers and engineers, the i-oniq evolves the Company's fluidic sculpture form language and represents bold "New Possibilities" with its futuristic powertrain.

The i-oniq concept car, designed and developed at Hyundai's European R&D centre in Germany, is an evolution of the company's signature design language, fluidic sculpture.

Hyundai's designers chose dynamic propotions to create i-oniq's aesthetic and functional body shape. Its design combines gentle feature lines and muscular surface treatment, conveying premium and atheletic qualities evident in both the exterior and interior of the car.

Mr. Thomas Burkle, Chief Designer at the Hyundai Motor Europe technical Centre, commented, "Two arched curves are the key themebehind i-oniq, creating a strong and playful contrast between sharp character lines and soft but muscular features. The profile lines of the fron fender run from front to back, emphasising i-oniq's coupe appearance, while offering maximum visibility to occupants."

Further design elements, such as the 'penthouse roof" and LED headlights, emphasise the advanced technology encased with i-oniq.

Fittingly for a sporty hatchback, the cabin layout is driver-oriented, with the dashboard and centre-console geometry based around the driver. The user interface components reflect contemporary and future consumer electronics technology such as movement control mounted on the steering wheel, floating instrument cluster with multi-layered projection, and a large background displayfor navigation, entertainment and other information.

The rear cabin area has been designed as a 'cosy lounge area' to ensure maximum occupant comfort, creating a positive contrast to the sports-orientated front area. Use of luxurious interior materials, as well as futuristic interface components, further expresses the evolution of fluidic sculpture within the car.

The i-oniq is powered by an innovative 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine generating a maximum of 45 kW (61 ps). This unit is mated to an 80 kW (109 ps) lithium-ion electric motor which is powered by a 55 kW generator, via a single ratio gearbox. In electric-only mode, i-oniq can travel 120km (74 miles) and up to 700km (435 miles) with the assistance of the petrol engine, emitting only 45 g/km of CO2 emissions. The concept can reach top speed of 145 km/h.

Nissan CVT Transmission Gear Box - how it's maintenance?

Just curious, wanted some answer from those really know this.

One of my friend is Nissan Teana owner, he proudly tell me that the new Nissan Transmission Gear Box technologies is in a close system, the gear box lubricant oil is content inside the box itself and not like those old system where it circular around for cooling purpose, of course they have their new cooling technologies for their gear box.

For instance, it seem the gear oil can't be change in normal workshop which I don't know if it is only changeable in Nissan Authorized Service Centre which they might have a special tool to do it.

And I heard from another friend which have the problem on the gear box, which the technical person tell him that this kind of gear box is unable to dismantle and do overhauling like those old type, and for his problem it is advice to change a new one, which I heard the quoted price for a new gear box is about RM50k.

But actually I'm suspecting it is not so true on their comment on how not maintenance friendly on this kind of gear box, may be it is just too new at the moment which they still don't know how about to deal with it, let see if anyone can provide a better fact on this question.
