Why Metal Cylinder Head Gasket should not change to Graphite!

It had been quite a trend that when a foremen change a cylinder head gasket which its original material is metal, they change it to graphite type of cylinder head gasket for their own reason.

But anyway, whatever reason given, there should be no reason good enough to overwrite the original technical reason from the engine manufacturer, here we wish to let our reader know that why cylinder head gasket have different material like metal and graphite,  and why one should not simply interchange this 2 kind of material.

*1   REPAIR USING DIFFERENT QUALITY

"CARBON" C/H GASKET IS FOR CASTING IRON BLOCK ENGINE AND

"METAL" C/H GASKET IS TO BE USED FOR ALUMINIUM BLOCK ENGINE.

*2   THERMAL EXPANSION OF BLOCK

IN CASE OF CASTING IRON BLOCK, THERE IS FEW THERMAL

EXPANSION, THEREFORE, IT IS SEALABLE BY NON-ASBESTOS &
CARBON MATERIAL.

MEANWHILE, THE RATE OF EXPANSION OF ALUMINIUM BLOCK ENGINE

IS BIG , THEREFORE, REPULSION OF "METAL" IS REQUIRED.

IF IT IS SUBSTITUTED "CARBON" INSTEAD OF "METAL", GASKET

IS NOT ABLE TO RESIST THERMAL EXPANSION AND IT WILL BE
CAUSE OF LEAKAGE.

EVEN IF "CARBON" GASKET FOR ALUMINIUM BLOCK ENGINE IS USED,

TROUBLE IS NOT BEGUN SOON, BUT THE ENGINE HAS SHORT LIFE
SURELY.

AND IN CASE "CARBON" C/H GASKET FOR ALUMINIUM BLOCK ENGINE

IS USED, ENGINE IS REPEATED THERMAL "EXPANSION" & "SHRINKAGE"
AND ENGINE HAS BIG PRESSURES CONTINUOUSLY.  IF WORST COMES
TO WORST .........., CYLINDER BLOCK MUST BE REPLACED.

IN CASE OIL AND COOLING WATER LEAKS OUT INSIDE OF ENGINE,

"WATER HAMMER" OCCURRED, BECAUSE WATER IS NOT PRESSURED.
AS THE RESULT, CON ROD HAS DAMAGE AND ENGINE HAS A DEATHBLOW.
