2016 Mazda CX-9 Engine

The all new 2016 Mazda CX-9 has made its official debut in 2015 L.A. Auto Show, the most interesting is the engine will be change to a SKYACTIV-G 2.5 Turbo Charge engine instead of the previous 3.7 V6 engine which having maximum output of 277HP (204kW), so let see what feature is having on this SKYACTIV-G engine.

SKYACTIV-G 2.5T
SKYACTIV-G 2.5T

Features of SKYACTIV-G 2.5T
  • High compression ratio
Mazda engineers achieved a compression ratio 10.5:1, one of the highest for any turbocharged engine with an 89-mm bore size that can run on regular gasoline.*4
  • Dynamic Pressure Turbo
SKYACTIV-G 2.5T is the world's first turbocharged engine with the ability to change the degree of exhaust pulsation depending on engine speed. At low rpms (below 1620 rpm), the volume of the exhaust ports is reduced by closing a series of valves located just before the turbine that drives the turbocharger. This reduces interference between exhaust pulses and maximizes the energy of each pulse to obtain a high turbine driving force. At higher rpms there is sufficient energy in the exhaust flow and the valves open, allowing the turbine to be driven by a steady flow of exhaust gases as in a traditional turbocharger. Whereas existing variable turbochargers adjust the speed or direction of exhaust gas flowing into the turbine, Dynamic Pressure Turbo is a unique technology that varies the degree of exhaust pulsation.
  • Cooled Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR)
This system takes some of the inert exhaust gas that results from the combustion process and reduces its temperature by passing it through a cooler before introducing it back into the engine's air intake. This lowers the temperature of combustion in the engine, preventing knocking, expanding the range in which the engine can maintain the ideal air-fuel ratio and reducing the need to retard ignition timing.
  • Inherits SKYACTIV-G principals of efficient combustion
SKYACTIV-G 2.5T is based on the naturally aspirated SKYACTIV-G 2.5 and features the same bore, stroke and bore pitch. Parts of the fuel system, such as the fuel pump and fuel injection system are also shared, helping SKYACTIV-G 2.5T to achieve the highly efficient combustion for which SKYACTIV-G engines are known.

SKYACTIV-G 2.5T Specifications (Based in-house measurements)
Inline 4-cylinder 2.5-liter direct-injection turbocharged gasoline engine

Daihatsu S200 EF-SE Engine Gasket

This Daihatsu EF-SE engine, is normally found in the model of Daihatsu S200 Hijet mini van, or mini truck in Japan market.

It is quite interesting that we found out some Perodua Kenari owner had swap this engine into their car, as this is not a turbo charge engine, unlike those Daihatsu JB-JL, JB-DET or EF-RL, I'm not very sure what is the main reason for them to swap to this engine, or may be they bolt on a separate turbo into it?

Ford Ranger 3.2 Engine Gasket

The Ford Ranger 3.2 engine gasket basically is consider in the same family with the 2.2 engine gasket version, whereby 2.2 engine is a 4 cylinder engine, and the 3.2 engine is a 5 cylinder engine.

Other than the Cylinder Head Gasket, Rocker Cover Gasket and Exhaust Manifold Gasket which is made longer because of the extra one cylinder, many items seem can be interchange between the 3.2 and 2.2 engine, the design of the flywheel oil seal and timing oil seal for both engine also have a little difference compare to other model.

Honda Civic 1.7 Intake Manifold Gasket

Not sure that the Honda Civic 1.7 under the D17A series and above having 2 types of intake manifold system design or not?

For the very initial model, it seems the intake manifold portion is separate with one layer system hence only one piece metal type of  intake manifold gasket is use.

But it seem a later version the intake manifold is separate by another layer call "injector base" as shown in above photo, hence the other layer is using 4 pieces of o-ring, which is consider the intake manifold gasket as well.

Will Datsun Go ever got chance entering Malaysia market?

Datsun may be a stranger brand for younger generation in Malaysia but not for those senior that try the very old model of Datsun Sunny 120Y before.

Datsun's start their production in 1931, and from 1958 to 1986, only vehicle exported by Nissan identified as Datsun. The Datsun brand is phased out by Nissan on 1986 and re-launched it back in 2013 with more concentration on the low cost vehicle manufactured for emerging market.

Their first model after the new re-launch is the Datsun Go and Datsun GO+ which mainly selling at India and Indonesia market, it is learn that the selling price in India is ranging about RM20k-RM24k. I think this reason is enough for Proton and Perodua will try to stop this model to coming in Malaysia market.

Powered by a 1.2L 3 cylinder HR12DE engine, which may consider in the same competition group for model like Suzuki Alto and Hyundai Eon in India market.

And the coming 2015 Tokyo Motor Show, Datsun will unveiled their concept SUV of Datsun Go-Cross, which it is still unknown that it will be using the same HR12DE engine, or may be using the Renault 1.5 dCi diesel engine.

Idle Speed O-ring

In between the injector & throttle body area, some may found an o-ring with interesting shape, not many looking for that o-ring as that area may not dismantle so often compare to other area, some call that as Idle Speed O-ring, or some call them as Idle Control O-ring.

Those O-ring may be also is the same type of items for various model,  just like quite some Toyota model using the part number 22215-7A680 and Mitsubishi tend to use MD615500 or MD614680.

Yamaha Sport Car

Recently got inquiry from customer on Yamaha outboard gasket, which is not in my current business line, and had been try to look for more info online about those outboard gasket.

The searching is still carry on, as my mind set is Yamaha is good for motorcycle and outboard boat industries, it is a surprise for me when I come across the Yamaha Car during googling.

I have copy some writing from a website about this Yamaha Sport Car.

It's been teased before and we knew that this concept from theYamaha stable is not going to be a bike. The Japanese motorcycle manufacturer today revealed the Sports Ride Concept and yes it's a sports car. Murray has pioneered a new variation of his iStream manufacturing system to create it using new-age carbon fibre technology.

It's taken five months from design to realization and though you might expect the McLaren F1 designer, Murray, to be behind the concept car's design, he wasn't part of it. The team was led by ex-Toyota designer Dezi Nagaya. Nagaya said that there are several design touches that are inspired by Yamaha motorbikes but haven't revealed anymore details about the car.

The new manufacturing system is derived from Gordon Murray Design's iStream manufacturing process which sees the glassfibre being replaced with carbon fibre. It has been developed in conjunction with Japanese firm Toray and you get to see a honeycomb paper core with two carbonfibre skins, which makes things even more interesting.

Yamaha hasn't spilled any beans on the details of the Sports Ride Concept and we really don't want to conjecture much but considering it's a carbon fibre chassis, we expect it to the lighter and somewhere in the range of 900kg. There's no word on the powertrain either and we'll wait for Yamaha to tell us more.

Mitsubishi 4G15 DOHC CS2A Engine Gasket

Someone in Malaysia having this engine, the 4G15 DOHC, which is installed in Mitsubishi Lancer CS2A, also can be found in Mirage Dingo CQ2A.

Unlike the precious 4G15 DOHC CK2A which is using one piece of rocker cover gasket, this CS2A model engine have total 3 pieces of gasket needed on the rocker cover side, left and right side consider as rocker cover gasket and the center one, is it consider a plug seal gasket or rocker cover gasket?

Ford Fiesta 1.0 EcoBoost engine

Malaysia Ford Fiesta 1.0 model also come with the EcoBoost engine, this 3 cylinder engine is well known of its light weight of its engine.

Let's us have some fact from Wikipedia,

Ford currently produces a 1.0-litre turbocharged in-line three cylinder engine for the EcoBoost family developed at Ford's Dunton Technical Centre in the UK. Production started in April 2012. The 1.0 comes initially in two versions: 74 kW (101 PS; 99 hp) and 88 to 92 kW (120 to 125 PS; 118 to 123 hp). The more powerful version delivers a maximum of 170 N·m (125 lb·ft) from 1,400–4,500 rpm and 200 N·m (148 lb·ft) on overboost, which makes for a broad torque curve when compared to a naturally aspirated gasoline engine. A 140 PS (138 hp) version has also been released in the Fiesta Red Edition and Black Edition, with 155 lb ft (210Nm) of Torque. The engine block is cast iron instead of aluminum for up to 50% faster warm-up, at the expense of additional weight.
Due to natural vibrations of a 3-cylinder design, the flywheel as with any other engine of similar configuration has been weighted properly to ensure smooth running, without the use of energy sapping balance shafts. The engine also features an internal timing belt, bathed in the engine oil, for long life and greater efficiency and reduced noise. The exhaust manifold is cast into the cylinder head, reducing warm up times and therefore further aiding efficiency. All this is packaged in an engine block the size of an A4 sheet of paper.
With the introduction of face lifted 2013 Ford Fiesta, Ford introduced naturally aspirated version of 1.0 Fox engine. There are two versions producing 65 hp and 80 hp, and both engines use Direct Injection and Ti-VCT like the turbocharged versions. Start-stop technology is also available.
The engines are produced in Cologne, Germany and Craiova, Romania with production to later expand in Chongqing, China. Production is expected to be 700,000–1,500,000 units per year. The engine is available in Ford Focus, the Ford Focus-based C-MAX and Grand C-MAX, and the Fiesta-based B-Max.
Ford has announced that the 1.0L Ecoboost engine will be available for the American market starting with the all-new 2014 Ford Fiesta Sedan and Hatchback. It was announced at the 2012Los Angeles Auto Show, when the 2014 Fiesta was introduced. The 123 hp version is now available in the North American market Focus starting with model year 2015.

Daihatsu JB-JL Parts

At one time, it is manage to gather the Daihatsu Mira L5 JB-JL parts for a "family photo", the family member include Full Set Gasket, Flywheel Oil Seal, Spark Plug, Timing Chain, Disc Brake Pad, Drive Shaft Oil Seal and Waterpump.

A bit of disappointment that the member of Piston Ring and Engine Valve can't make it to this "family photo" this time.

Subaru EJ20 Cylinder Head Gasket

Subaru boxer engine already evolve from EJ series to FA and FB series, but EJ series is consider one of the most variety of model under Subaru production, under the engine code of EJ20, EJ22, EJ25 or even some rare EJ16, they have a long list of variety like what they commonly said which generation of EJ20?

Although the variety of rocker cover gasket under EJ20 model is many, the cylinder head gasket also have a different version for different EJ20 engine, but may be not as headache as the rocker cover gasket which may more confusing.

Daihatsu Mira L5 JB-JL Engine Valve

It is normal when we are supplying gasket for customer, sometime we need to source for other engine parts such as piston ring, main bearing, con-rod bearing and so on.

This is one of those hardly found items, the engine valve for Daihatsu JB-JL engine, or just call it Kancil L5.

Nissan Urvan 3.0 ZD30 Glow Plug....Seal.

Supplying a Nissan ZD30DDTi Full Set Gasket, what will normally heard from foreman about items that are short in the full set gasket content?

Nissan ZD30DDTi engine are install on model like Safari and Terrano Y61 or R50, it is also can be found in Malaysia market as Urvan 3.0.

On the rocker cover of this engine, there are 4pcs seal, which mean for the glow plug area, which are not included in the gasket set.

This seal material is more towards like a plastic than the rubber.

Since it is not call as spark plug seal, but glow plug seal, I also wonder what glow plugs looks like for this engine.

Looks like the answer is for this 2 items as their combination.

Suzuki K6A Engine Rocker Cover Gasket

Suzuki K6A engine, probably mostly in Alto model, it is heard that some golf course cart is power by this small engine.

A same family from the K10A and K12A 4 cylinder engine, K6A is only 3 cylinder, which make all the gasket is actually about the same with those 4 cylinder type but it is shorter.

But it seem it had 2 design for the K6A rocker cover gasket, one most commonly found is with two moon seal stick on it, which is basically the same design as K10A and K12A but shorter, and another type with one moon seal as shown in the photo.

Mitsubishi Attrage Cylinder Head Gasket

Mitsubishi Attrage is consider a quite new model in Malaysia market, which it power with a 3 cylinder engine of 3A92.

It is known that some of Mitsubishi Colt and Mirage which power with 3A91 engine also share the same type of cylinder head gasket, and it is actually can be found at one of the Smart Forfour model, no wonder their valve seal pattern looks like those continental type of design instead of those Japanese type of valve seal.

Mitsubishi 4A30 Gasket

Mitsubishi 4A30 engine can be found in their Pajero Mini 700 model, it is not clear that Pajero Mini is available in Malaysia, but there are an engine of 4A31 which is use on Proton Juara in Malaysia, it is unknown that this 4A30 engine can be install into Proton Juara or not?

The 4A30 engine rocker cover gasket also different from those conventional rubber type of gasket, the thin metal material gasket seem more like those continental engine design.

Honda Acty E07A Waterpump

One customer had come forward for the Honda E07A engine gasket, he also wish to have the waterpump for this engine as well, since this Honda Acty or Honda Beat model is very less in Malaysia market, it seem waterpump is quite hard to look for.

Courtesy from one of the GMB waterpump dealer in Malaysia, they order 1 piece of this GWHO-41A for us, may be currently the only one piece in Malaysia.

Daihatsu JB-JL and JB-DET Spark Plug

Kancil L5 with Daihatsu JB-JL engine and Kancil L9 with Daihatsu JB-DET engine, although in the same JB series of engine, but using a different type of spark plug.

From the Denso official website, we can found Daihatsu JB-JL spark plug is more straight forward, using the Denso part number of K22TNR, which this spark plug also use on EF-RL engine.

For Daihatsu JB-DET engine, it seem got many type of Denso code which actually we also don't know what differences between them, most commonly code may be K20TNR, but code number like VK20Y, SVK20R-28, SVK20R-Z11 also can be found in the list, or may be it is for the iridium specification.

Toyota 1JZ-GTE VVTI Top Set Gasket

It seem Toyota 1JZ-GTE engine have a so call VVTI version and non VVTI version, so what is the difference between this 2 version in their engine gasket?

The rocker cover gasket, both using 2pcs of it, the VVTI version is using 2pcs difference rocker cover gasket which one of it is shorter then the other piece, and the non VVTI using 2pcs of same rocker cover gasket.

The inlet surger manifold gasket for VVTI type is thicker then the non VVTI type.

And the exhaust manifold gasket is difference between this 2 version.

What is "NA" engine stand for?

Sometime, we hear people talk about "NA" engine and "Turbo" engine, or when you need some engine gasket, your supplier may ask you your engine is "NA" type or "Turbo" type?

For "Turbo" type of engine, some may feel very straight forward that is a turbocharger bolt on engine, but for "NA" engine, do you just call it as engine that don't have turbocharger on it? Of course not.

"NA" is actually stand for Naturally Aspirated, so what does it mean? Here again with the help of Google search and Wikipedia, let see how is their definition on it.

In a naturally aspirated engine, air for combustion (diesel cycle in a diesel engine, or specific types of Otto cycle in gasoline engines – namely gasoline direct injection), or an air/fuel mixture (traditional Otto cycle petrol engines) is drawn into the engines cylinders by atmospheric pressure acting against a partial vacuum that occurs as the piston travels downwards toward bottom dead centre during the intake stroke. Owing to innate restriction in the engine's inlet tract which includes the intake manifold, a small pressure drop occurs as air is drawn in, resulting in avolumetric efficiency of less than 100 percent – and a less than complete air charge in the cylinder. The density of the air charge, and therefore the engine's maximum theoretical power output, in addition to being influenced by induction system restriction, is also affected by engine speed and atmospheric pressure, the latter which decreases as the operating altitudeincreases.
This is in contrast to a forced induction engine, in which a mechanically driven supercharger, or an exhaust-driven turbocharger is employed to facilitate in increasing the mass of intake air beyond what could be produced by atmospheric pressure alone.
As a two-stroke diesel engine is incapable of natural aspiration as defined above, some method of charging the cylinders with scavenging air must be integrated into the engine design. This is usually achieved with a positive displacement blower driven by the crankshaft. The blower does not act as a supercharger in this application, as it is sized to produce a volume of air flow that is in direct proportion to engine's requirement for combustion, at a given power and speed.
By the Society of Automotive Engineer's definition, a mechanically scavenged two-stroke diesel engine is considered to be naturally aspirated.

What is a Naturally Aspirated Engine ?

A naturally-aspirated engine refers to an internal combustion engine that is neither power enhanced with a turbocharger or supercharger. Most motor vehicle engines are naturally-aspirated engines; however, turbocharging and supercharging are currently a very popular way of boosting power output for a number car marques. Jaguar enjoys the benefits of its very quick supercharged models. Subaru, Saab, Mitsubishi and Nissan all have turbocharged models in their range of cars. Most road-going diesel-engine vehicles will use turbochargers and intercoolers too. This is because naturally aspirated diesel engines generally cannot offer a suitable level of power for everyday driving conditions.
In a naturally aspirated engine, the air/fuel mixture is forced into the cylinders by a vacuum caused by the cylinder movement, natural atmospheric pressure, and the venturi effect upon the opening of the inlet valves. In a turbocharged or supercharged engine, the fuel mix is forced into the combustion chamber under a greater pressure and this is therefore referred to as a forced induction engine.
When comparing a naturally asperated engine with a turbocharged or supercharged engine of the same displacement, the naturally aspirated engine will generally give less power. The simpler design of the naturally aspirated engines mean that they tend to be cheaper to produce en masse.
Many motor racing series like the big Aussie V8 Super-cars specify that only naturally aspirated engines be used in the cars to limit power and speed. NASCAR, Indy-Car and Formulas One sit also in this category. One of the main reasons for the limiting is also to ensure that the cost of producing the racing engines is not excessive and beyond the reach of some of the manufacturers. We hope that helps answer the question ‘What is What is a Naturally Aspirated Engine ?’!

Mitsubishi Evolution IX Full Set Gasket

Mitsubishi Evolution IX or EVO 9 is probably the last EVO series to use the 4G63 engine, and this 4G63 engine is also may be the latest version of 4G63 engine, or will it probably last version?

Mitsubishi introduced the Lancer Evolution IX in Japan on March 3, 2005, and exhibited the car at the Geneva Motor Show for the European market the same day. The North American markets saw the model exhibited at the New York International Auto Show the following month. The 2.0 L 4G63 engine has MIVEC technology (variable valve timing), and a revised turbocharger design boosting official power output at the crankshaft to 291 PS (214 kW; 287 hp) and torque to 392 N·m (289 lb·ft).
The USDM Lancer Evolution IX models: standard (Grand Sport Rally or "GSR" in some markets), RS (Rally Sport), SE (Special Edition) and MR (Mitsubishi Racing) varied slightly in their performance capabilities. Subtleties unique to each model accounted for variations in acceleration, handling and top speed. The RS excluded features standard on the standard, SE and MR models (stereo system, power windows and locks, rear wiper, rear wing, trunk lining and sound insulation). The result is a weight savings of over 60 lb (27 kg). The fuel capacity remains the same as the Evo VIII at 14 US gal (53 L).
Although the RS is the lightest of the group, the RS did not manage to outperform the standard IX and the MR around a road course (even if only by fractions of a second). This was purported to be due to the lack of a rear wing on the RS. In a drag race, the three models are all about even. They are all capable of 0-60 times between 4.2-4.5 seconds, and can run quarter mile times ranging from 12.6 to 13.3 (12.7-13.0 USA versions) seconds depending on the model/driver. The RS model was produced for rally and racing teams who wanted a platform to build a race car from. It is stripped of all the creature comforts, and other upgrades that drive the price up for features that the race teams would not require.
The IX MR retained the features of the Evolution VIII MR, like Bilstein shocks, a 6-speed manual transmission, a rooftop vortex generator, BBS forged wheels, HID xenon headlights, foglights, accessory gauge package, "zero lift" kit, special badging and an aluminum roof. All models continued to sport Recaro bucket seats, Brembo brakes and Momo steering wheels. Additional revisions from 2005 included a closer gear ratio for the 5-speed manual transmission, new lighter Enkei wheels on non-MR models, a redesigned front end with a more efficient air dam (the most noticeable feature are the two small oval ducts to cool the intercooler pipes), and a new rear bumper with a diffuser undersurface to smooth out the airflow coming out of the car for non-US models. In an effort to reduce the price increase on the Evolution IX model,[citation needed] HID headlights were no longer standard equipment on the base IX (nor were they standard on the 2005 VIII), and were available only in the SSL package (Sun, Sound, and Leather), SE (Special Edition) and MR trims.
The US versions of the Lancer Evolution IX did not come with the AYC but the ACD was still present. The drivers can select from three different driving modes, "Tarmac" "Gravel" and "Snow", and the car's computer system relatively promotes the active center differential to change the differential locking which, Despite popular belief, this switch DOES NOT change the torque split. The differential is geared at 50:50 and cannot be changed by the push of a button. What this switch actually does is quite simple. Each setting determines how long the ACD will delay in freeing the center differential after a steering input is made. In addition, it will determine how much locking force the ACD will exhibit on the clutch pack and center differential.
Tarmac is the setting to be used in dry, paved conditions. In this setting, the ACD will almost immediately allow the center differential to go into a free state upon detecting a steering input. Additionally, this mode provides the strongest limited-slip clamping force of the three modes. Although the US versions did not come with the AYC, it did come with a rear 1.5way clutch type LSD (limited slip differential)which, limits the slip from both rear wheels causing less traction loss of the rear wheels. The most common setup is the 1.5 way LSD, locking on throttle and partially locking on braking. In racing, Lancer Evolutions are not equipped with AYC or ACD because it is believed that better lap times are achieved by pure driver skill without any computer based assistance systems.
One of the changes from the previous iteration of the Lancer Evolution, was the change in the engine, the new 4G63 came with MIVEC, Mitsubishi's variable valve lifting technology, which drastically improves the fuel consumption by changing the valve timing on the intake cam. The MIVEC system is similar to Honda's i-VTEC system only that it doesn't change valve lift, only intake valve timing.
Three trims were available for Japan, Asia and Europe. Although all models used the same 291 PS (214 kW; 287 hp) engine, the torque differed from one model to another. In Europe, however, the Evolution IX was advertised to have 280 PS (206 kW; 276 hp). The GSR produced 400 N·m (295 lb·ft) of torque, while the RS and GT produced 407 N·m (300 lb·ft).
  • RS – "rally sport", revised 5-speed, aluminium roof, gauge pack, minimal interior, LSD and a titanium-magnesium turbine, left-hand drive option available.
  • MR RS – same as RS with 6-speed Manual Transmission.
  • GT – revised 5-speed, this is basically the RS mechanically, but with some of the GSR's features (mainly interior pieces).
  • GSR – 5-speed, Bilstein monotube shocks, aluminium roof, gauge pack, SAYC (Super Active Yaw Control), and double-din radio (this is roughly equivalent to the USDM MR).
  • MR GSR – same as GSR with BBS 17-inch alloy wheels and 6-speed Manual Transmission.
  • MR Tuned by RALLIART – Based on Lancer Evolution VI Tommi Makinen Edition, The Japanese Lancer Evolution IX was exclusively tuned by Mitsubishi Ralliart features the almost same as the civilian Evo IX MR GSR except for Carbon Fiber front lip Spoiler, Official Ralliart livery, Ralliart RA04 17-inch Black forged aluminum wheels.
In the United Kingdom, the Evolution IX used a different model scheme based on the car's horsepower. There were initially three models available: the FQ-300, FQ-320 and FQ-340 each with around 300(296/221), 320(316/236) and 340(336/250) PS(BHP/KW) respectively. An FQ-360 model was subsequently released as a successor to the Evolution VIII FQ-400. While the new FQ-360 produced less horsepower than its predecessor, it had more torque at 363 lb·ft (492 N·m) at 3200 rpm. All four models were designed to run on super unleaded petrol only. The MR FQ-360 was also released in limited numbers (only 200) in the last year of production.
  • FQ-300, 320, 340 – 6-speed, Bilstein monotube shocks, AYC (Active Yaw Control), super unleaded petrol only
  • FQ-360 – 6-speed, Bilstein monotube shocks, AYC (Active Yaw Control), Ralliart Sports Meter Kit, carbon front splitter, Speedline alloy wheels, super unleaded petrol only
  • MR FQ-360 – New turbo with titanium aluminium alloy turbo fins, Speedline Turini alloy wheels, Privacy Glass, Lowered Eibach Coil springs (10mm at the front/ 5mm at the rear), IX MR interior, super unleaded petrol only
Four models were available in the US. All models used the same 286 hp (213 kW) engine.
  • Standard – revised 5-speed, standard model
  • RS – ralli sport, revised 5-speed, aluminum roof, gauge pack, minimal interior, also no radio
  • SE – Special Edition, aluminum roof/hood, and front fenders, split seven-spoke forged aluminum BBS wheels in "diamond black" finish, HID headlights with integrated fog lights, red-stitched Recaro seats
  • MR – 6-speed, Bilstein monotube shocks, split seven-spoke forged aluminum BBS wheels, aluminum roof, hood, and front fenders, gauge pack, HID headlights with integrated fog lights, vortex generator, front brake cooling ducts and custom MR badging.
All of the American models are the same in power, but may differ in performance. The only thing that sets them apart is the Evo RS, which is 80 lb (36 kg) lighter than the MR and SE models.
To the standard model, the Sun, Sound and Leather package added a power sunroof, HID xenon headlamps with integrated fog lights, a slightly different stereo headunit (with no integral amplifier), slightly upgraded speakers in the front doors and parcel shelf, a 4.1-channel amplifier under the driver's seat, a powered, trunk-mounted Infinity subwoofer, black leather seating surfaces, leather-trimmed door panels, slightly revised center armrests in the front and rear, and separate rear side headrests. This model deleted the GSR's headliner-mounted sunglass holder to make room for the sunroof.
The Philippines had the Evolution IX until in August 2008, which was offered in two trims, the entry-level RS offering a 5-speed manual transmission, Brembo 17-in. ventilated discs (4-Pot),Brembo 16-in ventilated drum-in-disc (2-Pot) and almost the same features as to that of the GSR trim in the international version. Some RS models had the SAYC option, while some did not. The MR was the top-of-the-line segment, which offered almost the same features as to that of the MR trim in the international version. All of them are powered by the same 2.0 L I-4 4G63turbocharged MIVEC engine.
Mitsubishi also released a rare Evolution IX wagon in GT, GT-A and MR models. All variants had options for a 6 speed manual or a 5 speed automatic. The automatic variant uses a non-MIVEC 4G63 with a smaller turbo. It was only sold in Japan and imported to other countries as grey imports. Only 2500 Wagons were produced.
