Proton - many news in a day!

Coming back to work from the one week Chinese New Year holiday, and browsing the news portal as usual, finding that 3 news related from Proton that catch my intention.

First, I found a news that normally announce by Toyota or Honda which they recall their certain model for some technical problem, but this time is Proton that announce they will recall almost 100,000 units of its Exora, Preve and Suprima models to fix the CFE oil cooler hoses starting Tuesday.

Its chief executive officer, Datuk Abdul Harith Abdullah, said these models faced problems of the oil cooler hoses, which would break down when the cars reach an average mileage of 40,000 kilometres (km), due to the degration of internal hose/tube material.

"We will call the owners and the priority will be given to the cars with mileage of 40,000 km and above. We hope to finish this in the next six months," he told reporters at the preview of the new Proton Perdana here on Tuesday.

After that, Proton has revealed a new logo, as seen on the brand’s Facebook page. The new tiger emblem also comes with a fresh tagline – It’s in the Drive!

As before, the new Proton logo’s dominating element is a tiger head inside a ring, and the emblem is in black and sliver. However, the “PROTON” lettering has been deleted, and the tiger head moved higher as a result. The ring is now thicker and looks to be more “3D” in appearance. New or old – which do you prefer?
“A new era, a new face. This new logo signals the beginning of a new era for all of us at Proton. It’s more than just a new face. It’s a new promise. A new attitude. A new commitment. Many do not know and have not driven our latest cars. It’s time they did. It’s time they knew who we are, what we stand for and how good our cars really are,” Proton said on its FB page.
And lastly, the much awaited 2016 Proton Perdana, is said to be open for public booking, although its official launch is set to be in the Q1 of 2016.
Some preliminary details for this 2016 Proton Perdana stated as below from the Paultan website,
Following our early preview of the new 2016 Proton Perdana, we now have some preliminary details on the equipment that will be offered. Two variants will be presented to customers – 2.4L and 2.0L, with bookings now open for the national carmaker’s flagship sedan.
The 2.4 litre model that bears the Honda-derived K24Z2 i-VTEC engine will get a bodykit that includes front and rear spoiler lips, plus side skirts. Also included are xenon projector headlights and 17-inch wheels. Meanwhile, the base 2.0L model (R20A3 2.0 litre i-VTEC engine) will lose out on the bodykit, paired with halogen projector headlights and different-design 17-inch wheels.
As for the Perdana’s interior, the 2.4L gets seats that are upholstered in beige leather (confirming our earlier spyshots), accompanied by various pieces of wood trim. The car will also receive two separate screens, with one acting as the head unit, and the other serving as a display for among other things, the navigation function. Electric-powered seats are fitted on the driver’s side as well.

The base 2.0L on the other hand, gets black leather for its seats instead, with silver trim on various parts of the cabin. It also gets a different head unit along with manually adjustable driver and passenger seats. On both variants, keyless entry will not be offered.
On the safety side of things, four airbags come as standard on both the 2.0 and 2.4 litre variants. The only catch is, electronic stability control (ESC) will only be available on the 2.4L, while the 2.0L will have to make do without it.
Keep in mind that these are merely initial specifications of the new 2016 Proton Perdana. More details and final specifications of the sedan will be released during its launch, which is scheduled to be in Q1 of 2016. For now, does it have what it takes to impress? Let us know.
